Hey girly….
From day one, we’re told to be small. Sit pretty. Be polite. Don’t talk too loud. Don’t show too much. Don’t ask for more.
Shrink yourself to fit the room.
But let me be very clear: you are allowed to take up space.
Physical space. Emotional space. Creative space. Loud, messy, powerful space.
Signs You’ve Been Shrinking:
- You apologize when someone bumps into you
- You hesitate to speak your mind in case it makes things awkward
- You try to hide your belly in photos, your feelings in conversation, your ambition in meetings
Sound familiar?
That’s not being humble. That’s being conditioned.
Take It Back
Taking up space doesn’t mean you’re selfish. It means you’re real. You’re here. You matter.
It means taking the photo even if you’re nervous.
Wearing the outfit even if your thighs touch.
Asking for what you need. Saying what you think. Letting yourself be fully seen.
Your voice, your needs, your presence—they’re not inconveniences. They’re parts of your whole damn life.
What Taking Up Space Looks Like:
- Saying “no” without guilt
- Saying “yes” to joy without justification
- Wearing bold lipstick or going bare-faced because you want to
- Showing up in the room and refusing to apologize for your existence
You were never meant to be small.
You were never meant to squeeze into someone else’s comfort zone.
You were meant to take up space.
So go ahead. Stretch. Speak. Move like you deserve to be here.
Because you do.
xoxo
