So…..
I stumbled upon these paintings, The Three Graces and Goddess Diana and Nymph Callisto, the other day and it really got me thinking about the current state of body image and female figures portrayed in the media. At first, I was going to keep my upset thoughts to myself, but I thought it was better to share it with my Intimate Story girls, because images like this celebrate the reality of women and need to be seen.
In both paintings, the goddesses are depictions of “the epitome of beauty”. Which, yes, means their soft bellies and rolls were seen as beautiful, too. I love images like these because they portray women exactly how they are, and how they should be!
We’re meant to have some curves and cellulite to us. So why are images like this not okay in today’s day and age? Our society has trained us to think that having bodies like these is completely unacceptable, even when it’s natural and how how many of us look! It makes no sense to me that the media says you’re “attractive” if you have a body and face only Photoshop can create (literally impossible to achieve otherwise) but “unattractive” if we have physiques similar to the vast majority of women. How fucked up is that?!
These women clearly had no issues celebrating their feminine curves and posing naked for hours in front of an artist (and I think we can all agree they look fierce as hell!). So, why should we feel bad about our bodies now?
Now go and own those curves, girl!
XOXO
